Learning to Cook
Recipes are
like paint by numbers
but I’ve always
wanted to paint by
instinct.
So when the recipe says
three quarters of a cup
it really means
"We're trying to recreate the
measurements of a chef
who just does
as she pleases”
and I’d rather do as I please.
Trial and error
no measurements,
smashing eggs with one hand.
The “hard” way isn't
hard when it's play.
Following recipes
suffocated me,
so I don’t do it anymore.
Recipes suck the soul
right out
of the food,
just ask any chef
and they’ll agree.
